“I can’t finish your sandwich unless you tell me what you want on it!”: Woman cuts deli line, refuses to stay and choose bread or toppings, leaves and returns furious that the sub was not magically ready

Grocery deli time turns into a speed run in reverse when a customer demands a sub immediately, refuses to stand there for basic choices, and leaves a worker holding a stack of meat and cheese like a riddle with bread.  

This is the new consumer sport. Outsource patience, outsource presence, then act shocked when reality does not hand over lunch on telepathy. Workers get graded on mind-reading while the customer goes on a walk, and somehow the clock is the only thing moving. 

Nothing here is complicated. A sandwich needs bread, toppings, and a human within pointing distance. If the human disappears, the assembly line stops, and what is left on the counter is not a sub, it is proof that entitlement hates participation.

  • I was waiting in line at the sub counter in the deli section of my local grocery store.

  • Grace for workers starts small. Wait in the line that exists. Stay long enough to say lettuce or no lettuce. Keep the choices short and the tone normal. The miracle is not speed, it is clarity that lets the person behind the counter do a simple thing well.

  • The worker is visibly confused and honestly same, I hadn't even seen that woman anywhere in the deli section when I arrived so I wasn't sure what entitled her to an already completed sandwich.

  • The funniest part is not the tantrum. It is the silence after, when three normal sandwiches get built start to finish while one imaginary one sits there like a shrine to the idea that time owes service even when the customer has left the building.
